Block paving is the most common driveway surface across Leicester and Leicestershire, and it is also the surface that benefits the most from a proper deep clean. Done well, the difference is dramatic. Done badly, you can end up with sand blown out of every joint and bricks that have been pitted and roughened. Choosing a careful, experienced cleaner matters.
Why block paving needs more than a quick rinse
Each individual block has tiny pores in the surface that fill up with airborne dirt, exhaust soot, oil mist and biological growth. A simple cosmetic wash skims the very top, but the real grime is sitting just below the surface. We use a 200-bar machine with a rotary surface cleaner that lifts the contamination evenly without stripping the colour or attacking the joints.
Cleaning the joints
The most common cause of weeds and moss returning quickly after a clean is sand left in the joints that is already contaminated. We deliberately clear most of it out as part of the wash, then re-sand with fresh kiln-dried sand. Brushing the new sand into dry joints locks the blocks together again and keeps the surface looking sharp for longer.
Re-sanding properly
Re-sanding is not just decorative. The sand is what stops the blocks from rocking, distributes the load when a vehicle drives over them, and slows down the regrowth of weeds. We brush the kiln-dried sand into every joint and then settle it carefully. We never re-sand wet paving — the sand needs the joints fully dry to fall right down to the bottom.
What it costs
The price of a block paving clean in Leicester depends mainly on the area in square metres and how badly the joints need clearing. Smaller drives generally start in the low hundreds. Larger drives with patterned paving and lots of edging take longer. Quotes are always free and in writing.
