Flagstone patios are common across the older properties of Leicestershire — particularly in the villages around Melton Mowbray, Market Harborough and the rural lanes outside Loughborough. Flagstone patio cleaning takes a careful hand because the stone is older, often softer and almost always pointed with mortar that has been there for decades.
Why flagstones need a careful approach
Older flagstones may be weathered and have a slightly worn surface that you do not want to damage further. The mortar pointing between them is the most vulnerable part. If a powerful jet wash blasts the mortar out, you have created a much bigger job for yourself.
The Jet Waves method
We start with a biocide for any algae or moss, allow it to dwell, then rinse the slabs with a wide-fan nozzle and a controlled pressure setting. We angle the lance away from the pointing and use the rotary surface cleaner across the centre of the slabs to give an even finish without scoring the stone.
Re-pointing afterwards
If your pointing was already crumbling before we arrived, the wash will likely take a little more out. We will tell you up front. Re-pointing is a separate job — we can recommend a local stonemason if you want one.
